Terms of Service
Effective date: February 24, 2025
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Waqt mobile application ("the app", "Waqt", "we", "our"). By downloading or using Waqt, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Description of Service
Waqt is an iOS application that provides Islamic prayer time calculations based on your location, an optional Qibla compass, prayer tracking, and an optional app-blocking feature that uses Apple's Screen Time API to restrict access to selected apps during prayer times.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use Waqt. If you are under 18, you should have parental or guardian consent. The Screen Time blocking feature requires Apple's FamilyControls authorization.
3. Free and Premium Features
Waqt offers both free and Premium features:
- Free features include prayer time display, Qibla compass, and prayer streak tracking.
- Premium features include app blocking during prayer times, signature-based prayer verification, and customisable block duration. These require an active subscription.
4. Subscriptions
Premium features are available through auto-renewable subscriptions managed by Apple:
- Weekly: $1.99 USD per week
- Annual: $29.99 USD per year
Both plans include a 3-day free trial for eligible users (one trial per Apple ID). Key terms:
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase or at the end of the free trial period.
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the same price.
- You can manage and cancel your subscription in your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
- Any unused portion of a free trial period is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
Prices may vary by region and are subject to change. Applicable taxes may apply.
5. Prayer Time Calculations
Prayer times are calculated using established astronomical methods (powered by the adhan-swift library). While we strive for accuracy:
- Prayer times are estimates based on mathematical calculations and may differ slightly from times announced by local mosques or authorities.
- Accuracy depends on your device's location services. Incorrect or unavailable location data may result in inaccurate prayer times.
- Waqt is a tool to assist you. It is your responsibility to verify prayer times with local sources when precision is critical.
6. App Blocking & Screen Time
The app-blocking feature uses Apple's FamilyControls, DeviceActivity, and ManagedSettings frameworks. By enabling this feature:
- You grant Waqt permission to temporarily restrict access to apps and app categories you select during prayer time windows.
- Blocking is applied for the duration you configure (15–30 minutes) and is automatically removed when the block period ends or when you verify your prayer.
- Waqt does not monitor, log, or transmit any information about your app usage.
- If you deny Screen Time authorisation, Waqt will still function for prayer times and tracking, but blocking will be unavailable.
7. User Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Use the app for its intended purpose of assisting with Islamic prayer times and habits.
- Not attempt to reverse-engineer, modify, or distribute the app or its components.
- Not use the app in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
8. Intellectual Property
All content, design, code, and trademarks in Waqt are the property of the developer and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Quranic verses and Hadith references included in the app are from the public domain and are presented for educational and spiritual purposes.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
Waqt is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that:
- The app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
- Prayer time calculations will be perfectly accurate in all locations and conditions.
- App blocking will function flawlessly on all devices and iOS versions.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app. This includes, without limitation:
- Missed prayers due to inaccurate calculations or notification failures.
- Inability to access apps due to blocking not clearing properly.
- Loss of data stored locally on your device.
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Termination
You may stop using Waqt at any time by deleting the app. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the app at any time without notice. Active subscriptions can be cancelled through your Apple ID settings.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict of law principles.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
